Bob Richards, Principal
Meet the PrincipalHello, Sunrise Families! My name is Bob Richards, and I am proud to serve as the principal of Sunrise Elementary, “Where tomorrow’s light shines today!” Our students are the light of tomorrow, and we see them shine brightly in both academics and social skills on a daily basis.
Prior to Sunrise, most of my career was in the Puget Sound region of Washington State, serving in a variety of schools at all grade levels. My wife, Shannon, and I moved to Albany in 2022 to be close to our grandchildren, and we love to spend time with them cooking, playing, swimming, fishing, and singing karaoke! Mrs. Richards is the principal of Takena and Central Elementary Schools, so you may see us at each other’s schools from time to time, participating in family events.
Here at Sunrise, one of our Guiding Principles is, “We believe in our students. We stand committed to developing the social and academic potential of tomorrow’s leaders.” As your principal, I believe this to my core. Every member of the Sunrise staff is dedicated to helping each child grow and succeed.
Join us in this life-changing work! Parents, guardians and approved volunteers are welcome at our school, and are encouraged to join our monthly Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) meetings. Another of our Guiding Principles is, “We believe in teamwork. Collaboration between teachers, parents, and students is key to success, as we harness each other’s strengths and perspectives for growth.” We cannot do this without you!
Above all, help us grow our students into healthy, caring people. The kindness we show, the empathy we instill, and the behavior we teach are the skills that transfer into all areas of life. As our kids become the leaders of tomorrow, we are filled with the joy that comes from playing an important role in guiding them along life’s path.
Proud to be your principal,
Bob Richards
